Lattice Cardigan – An easy crochet cardigan pattern

A summer crochet cardigan/ crochet robe

I made this cardigan for my daughter Leyla who is eleven.

She was going to a birthday party and wanted a light and airy cardigan that she could wear over her tank top and shorts. So of course mommy waved her magic hook 🙂

Since then she has worn it around the house as a robe, at the beach after swimming. This soft cotton cardi has become her favorite crochet top this summer.

This crochet cardigan is easy to make. It works fast and looks great.

I will explain how I made my daughter’s cardigan, and also give you pointers on how to adjust this crochet Robe/Cardi to any size.

My daughter’s is wearing a size 10/12

1st you make the back panel

worked bottom up. Bottom is 17 inches wide
measured flat slightly stretched

then you make 2 front panels – it might look narrow but don’t worry. It will be just right after you add the border.

worked bottom up. Each panel is about 6.5 inch wide

seam the front and back panels

last, you work a border around the front panel and collar and sleeves

border is about 1.5 inches wide on each side

The panels are worked bottom up

The Stitch Pattern

The sttich pattern calls for a multiple of 4. When starting the panel you will chain a multiple of 4 + 1 since you will sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, you will end with a multiple of 4

There are 2 stitch patterns in this fabric a solid section and a mesh section

Material:

Yarn used: Lionbrand ZZtwist. I used about 3 skeins for size 10/12

Hook size 5 mm hook

I worked the math for you and made a table below. Select the size you are making and right under it you will find the corresponding chain you need to start the panel.

The calculations is done for a cardigan with a 4″ ease for a child size and 6″ ease for an adult and youth size.
