The Diamond Sweater

The making of The Diamond Sweater. Original design by hookoflove

oh lala! the fit and elegance of this sweater! I simply love this piece.

I used about 5 skeins of Joy DK™ Yarn by Loops & Threads® in Spearmint with a 5 mm hook.

You can pretty much use any yarn you like. I’m thinking of making another Diamond Sweater with a thicker yarn for colder weather days.

Even though the instruction below is for a size M/L you can easily customize the Diamond sweater to your desired size. Just make a foundation chain that goes around your bust. Add or remove chains to get a multiple of 8

The diamond stitch design –

Foundation Chain: multiple of 8

Construction of the sweater:

the sweater is worked from bottom up

  1. from the bottom (minus the the ribbing), work 14 rounds of  double crochets.
  2. work 19 rounds of Hookoflove Diamond Stitch design
  3. separate for armhole: work front then back panel. A combination of double crochets and diamond stitch corset structure
  4. sew shoulders, and shape neckline
  5. work sleeves
  6. work ribbing on hem of sweater and wrist bands

Abbreviation:

ch = chain

dc = double crochet

fpdc =front post double crochet

bpdc = back post double crochet

puf st = puff stitch =
(yo, insert hook in designated stitch, yo, pull yarn to length of dc) 3 times, yo pull tru 8 loops (1 loop remain on hook), yo, pull thru remaining 2 loops
