The Berry Hat
This hat is worked from the bottom to the top.
The stitch used is the Raspberry stitch. I simply love this stitch. Doesn’t it look yummy?!
Instruction is given for a fitted hat.
To achieve a slouchy fit, work 3 or 4 more rows before decreasing
Yarn: 1 skein of Lion Brand Heartland
Crochet Hook Size: 4 mm for the band and 5 mm for the body
beg = beginning
blsc = back loop single crochet
CL = (1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc) in same designated stitch
hdc = half double crochet
sc = single crochet
sl.st.. = slip stitch
st = stitch
sk = skip
sctog = single crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
Making the Band of the hat -ribbing
with 4 mm hook
Row 1 : 1 sc in each st (8 sc), ch 1, turn
Working on back loop of stitches only
Row 2: 1 blsc on each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until band measures 19 inches when lightly stretched. To make a child size hat make a smaller band. for adult size hat make the band longer. When lightly stretched the band should fit around the head of the person you are making the hat for.
Fold band, sew the band or slip slitch to form a ring (matching the 8 sc of the foundation chain to the 8 sc of last row)
The Body of the Hat
The hat is crochet using the Raspberry stitch
The raspberry stitch is worked on the wrong side of the work.
The band does not have a wrong or right side. Choose the side you like best and make it your right side
Attach yarn to the side of the band that would be the inside of the hat
Round 1: Ch 1, work 30 CL evenly around the band, sl.st. to 1st sc
Round 2– ch 1, CL in same space as sl.st, *sk next dc and sc, CL in first sc of next CL, repeat all around, sl. st. to the first sc (30 CL)
Round 3 – 15 as Round 2
Start decrease (for a slouchy hat work more rows before stating to decrease)
The decrease is done on the right side of the work. Turn your work, right side facing out.
Note: use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of the row. As the opening get smaller and smaller this will help you keep track of the starting of next row.
Round 16– ch 1, 1 sc in same space, *1 sctog next 2 stitches (sctog will be done on the dc, and sc of previous row), 1 sc in next sc, repeat from* around, sl.st. to 1st sc
Round 17 – ch 1, 1 sc in each st. all around, sl.st. to 1st sc each
Row 18 – ch 1, *1sc, 1 sctog (decrease), repeat from* around, sl.st. to 1st sc

Row 20 as Row18
Row 21 as Row 17
